Elections in the Waterloo Region will take place October 24.
What kind of urban area do you want to live in? There are many issue around how we want to develop, what kind of transit system we want, how do ensure we have a livable and sustainable place for generations to come.
Do we rush to provide housing?
Who will live in the current condo constructions?
Will we have enough low cost housing for those in need?
Will there be enough park space?
What will the education system look like?
So, you can vote for city councils, regional council and school board trustees.
For more information about the process go to the Region's website so you can be registered and able to vote.
Some issues that have been covered by previous articles in the LAUNCH blog may help.
In brief, consider the following:
- Ask candidates what needs to be done to have a sustainable and livable city for current and future residents. What needs to be done to help transform Waterloo Region to a low carbon community?
- The cost of housing (rent and home prices) have increased significantly. Ask your candidate what should be done to reduce the cost of housing.
- Many condos have small, one bedroom units and are not affordable. Ask candidates what they would do to have more family-sized units to allow a diversity of different households?
- Ask candidates what they would do to end homelessness and provide for those living in encampments?
- Many developments are going up without additional green space. What would candidates do to address the need for more green space?
There will be candidates meetings posted on the Calendar page of this blog. The only one as of now is Wednesday September 21 at 7pm at Calvary United Church, 91 Gruhn St, Kitchener (near Park and Glasgow).
