Mississauga's Mayor Bonnie Crombie has been vocal on the impact of the Provincial Housing Affordability Task Force Report on local planning. The City of Mississauga has a webpage that describes the potential impact on how our cities could look if the recommendations are accepted by the provincial government. Mississauga is more concerned with Task Force recommendations that would:
- Limit all public consultation on future developments
- Lower design standards and erase heritage
- Remove neighbourhood character considerations
- Reduce our ability to plan our city in our own way
- Create a financial risk for the development of new infrastructure and parkland in our city and put the burden for growth on existing taxpayers
- Fail to build any affordable housing, but create more supply for investors to buy and hold
- Remove the ability for residents to appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal
The webpage link is here.
The City of Mississauga will have a virtual meeting on Wednesday April 6, 6:30-8:00pm. For more information about registering and viewing this meeting, click here.
