Comment on Today's Posts

Well... They say that when it rains it pours... There are four items today of interest. While I have your attention...

It seems like there are many who are concerned about where the City of Kitchener is headed with it's headlong rush to build up, not out.  don't get me wrong but there is a lot of evidence that high rise development is not the way to go... Check this article by Tim Snelson, an architect at Arup, one of the world's most prestigious builders of high rises... Wasteful, Damaging and Outmoded: Is it time to stop building skyscrapers?

Image from Arup Group shows some of their projects

We can build higher density if we build in, not up.

Medium rise, high density is possible, if only we weren't inundated by developments that will overwhelm our neighbourhoods with tall towers that are the urban equivalent of monoculture.

Can citizens have a say??? Yes, you can write your councilors and in a few months time vote for a environmentally conscious, socially responsible city council.

For now, just read what is being said in the next four blog items and think about it.  For more links on skyscrapers see the links section of this blog.
